EU Ministry of Health: Better regulation of veterinary pharmaceuticals: how to put in place a simpler legal framework, safeguarding public and animal health while increasing the competitiveness of companies

Within the European Union veterinary medicinal products are regulated by legislation throughout their entire lifetime on the basis of scientific expertise. In order to ensure the quality, safety and efficacy of medicines, a veterinary medicinal product may only be placed on the market in the Community when a marketing authorisation has been issued. The legal framework provides a special, simplified registration procedure for homeopathic medicinal products. This procedure takes into account the particular characteristics of homeopathic products, such as the very low level of active substances they contain and the difficulty of applying to them the conventional statistical methods.
